Sacred Pause Spiritual Accompaniment

Desiring to feel at home in your own house and integrated with the whole of life; yearning for something more, something deeper; hearing a call, and wondering where it leads you. These are just some of the reasons seekers of truth and meaning, weary travelers, and contemplative questioners come for spiritual direction.

Spiritual direction, also known as spiritual accompaniment or spiritual companionship, offers an opportunity for you to come as you are, allowing yourself space for an intentional pause to bring your spiritual life into conscious awareness and focus.

An intentional pause is a spiritual practice that acknowledges our daily overload and the ongoing to-do lists floating around in our heads, and then invites us to take a moment to breathe. When we take moments to rest here and now, we are better able to recognize the gift of our sacred being-ness – the gift that says we are enough and that we belong – not solely based on what we do, but because of who we are.

A one-to-one spiritual direction session, which typically takes place once a month for 50 minutes to an hour, is a dedicated time to slow down, spiritually deepen, and wrestle with your faith … to nurture your relationship with the Higher Power of your own understanding, hone spiritual practice, get accountability for your religious life, or rest in the Presence of G-d or the Divine (however it is named, experienced, and expressed).

This is how a few sacred wisdom teachers have described the practice:

Spiritual direction is the practice of holy presence and the gift of shared wisdom. – Rev. Dr. Barbara A. Holmes

Spiritual direction is about taking time to reflect on your life’s journey with someone who provides support and encouragement along the way. – Rev. Teresa Blythe

Spiritual direction is an opportunity to explore your relationship with the Divine, to be more aware of God’s presence and action in your life, to look for the More that you sense is there in the midst of your life, to listen for the guidance of the Spirit, to be open to the Holy. – Patty Levering, M.Div.

And as the mystic Dr. Howard Thurman said::

There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have.

I hold space for you to listen to that “sound of the genuine.”

And in this space, I welcome, appreciate, and celebrate the beautiful diversity of your identity expressions and faith backgrounds.

A quick tidbit about Sr. Lynette Davis, SFCC

Like so many of us, I wear quite a few hats. But mainly I describe myself as a Love Agent striving to act on behalf of the guiding Spirit of Love. As both a creative and a healer I enjoy holding space that encourages people to bring their authentic selves to the circle of genuine relationships.

My faith journey has been multifaceted and quite ecumenical. I carry a history and lineage of women with deeply intuitive gifts and have formerly served in the diaconate and on various performance arts ministries (namely the praise dance team and choir) in the Baptist tradition. My family background is in the Methodist and Holiness-Pentecostal denominations, and I attended Catholic school in my youth.

I currently walk the Path of Love in communion with The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and am a graduate of Earlham School of Religion and the Phoenix Center for Spiritual Direction Apprenticeship Program. I am also a vowed member of The Sisters For Christian Community (SFCC) a contemporary, ecumenical community of women religious. But my path hasn’t been without difficulties.

I once became so disenchanted with the Church that I left to discover my own spirituality, and develop religious practice outside the bounds of traditional religious institutions. As a result, I met and broke bread with many different people from a wide range of spiritual traditions to no tradition at all. It has been a very transformational journey and I’m honored to continue those interspiritual bridge-building relationships today.

So, come as you are. You are welcome in this space, place, and time.

I will walk alongside you during your journey of faith and transformation. While my work as a creative is often informed by liberation, womanist, queer, and more recently process and disabled theologies, my approach to spiritual direction is non-directive. This means, I’m not here to tell you what to do, but encourage you to uncover the inner wisdom you already have deep inside. You may do that best when creating art, writing poetry, doing embodied practices, or simply sitting in silence and waiting for words to emerge from the quiet. I hold space for these possibilities.

I invite you to seek me out as your spiritual companion.

Seeing if we are a good fit for one another is an essential part of the process. Let’s start with a brief talk.

We’ll meet virtually, usually on Zoom – but please feel free to request your preferred video conferencing platform.

Please note: as someone who sits on the margins of margins, I prioritize affordable soul care for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ Spiritual Changemakers.
